“Enabling Today's Air Warriors”
Success is a total team effort. Our accomplishments have been instrumental in transforming the Air Force to
better enable our Air Warriors. We continue to take the fight to the enemy even as we have restructured much
of the Air Force, implementing change across your respective functional areas to find needed efficiencies to
offset reduced manpower and increased deployments.
Albert Einstein once said: “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” Today, Air Force leadership
is asking you to question the way we do things and then asking you to take it the next level and provide a better
solution. Long gone are the days of “that's the way we've always done it” to asking “why are we doing this” and
“what how can we do it better”. This questioning and inventiveness ensures our warriors and families have safe
and healthful environments in which to live, work, and play.
ESOH management is everyone's job, everyday, everywhere. From base civil engineers to flight line mechanics
or pilots, ESOH in everything we do must become second nature to our airmen, civilians, and contract staff as
we enable the Air Warriors to carry out this nation's wartime missions.
Funding reductions and the increased mission demand necessitates more efficient ways to train the Air Warrior.
Five Air Force major commands, sharing similar operational missions and challenges, have combined training initiatives
and resources to produce this ESOH Training Symposium.
Today, the ESOH Symposium focuses on the multi-level training needs of base civil, environmental, and bioenvironmental
engineers, logistics (supply, transportation, and contracting), operations and maintenance, public affairs,
occupational safety and health, legal, and many other functional areas. Bringing together this controlled
cross-functional team from most installations across the world, the Symposium achieves several key
objectives and makes this a vital training source for all Air
Force operations:
- Focuses on wing and mission training needs at a fraction of the cost
- Leverage limited resources across all organizations
- Reduce training impact on base missions – combine multiple TDYs into one event
- Concentrate training in a cost-controlled environment
A team of professional educators and subject area experts from national academia, federal and state agencies,
and Fortune 100 industries from around the world will conduct roughly 500 class sessions this week. This
textbook provides instant access to information on all courses presented and is designed to be the students'
reference for ESOH programs and processes and is an invaluable Commander's Desk Reference. With your ingenuity
and inventiveness, we are achieving our goals in record time.
