Sympo 101

  • Know your registration number. Bring a printout of your registration email showing your slot number to the initial registration on Sunday. If there is some kind of problem with your registration, we can look up your information much quicker.

  • Symposium staff are there to help. In addition to the Ops center and designated Info stations, we have people assigned to walk the perimeter. Look for staff members wearing badges with a red "Staff" ribbon on it.

  • Be familiar with the layout before you come. A map of the convention center is available on this website. Become acquainted with the basic layout ahead of time.

  • Free continental breakfast near the classrooms. Breakfast carts will be stationed near the classrooms each morning offering coffee, beverages and pastries. Those preferring a different menu should plan to eat breakfast elsewhere before coming to class.

  • The per diem will allow you to eat well. Even if the local costs seem high, the per diem has been adjusted to allow for that, and you should be able to purchase three meals a day without going over the limit.

  • Bring a jacket or sweater. Classrooms may seem cold to some. Bring clothing and accessories that allow for all kinds of temperatures and weather conditions, indoors and out.

  • Bring comfortable shoes. The convention center covers a large area. Try as we might we cannot guarantee that your classes will be close to each other. Please be sure that the shoes you bring, in addition to looking professional, will also remain comfortable the entire week.

  • The textbook is large and heavy. Some people literally cannot fit it in their luggage on the way home, or it puts them over their weight limit. Taking the book is optional and you may opt to use the electonic copy posted on this website instead. If you do take a book, consider mailing it home to yourself at the end of the week, or just allow for the extra bulk ahead of time.

  • Take class attendance seriously. Everything is monitored electronically. The bar code used to track attendance does a lot more than just show what class you went to. Suspicious patterns of attendance are recognized and flagged--for example, being in two places at once, showing up in the wrong class or not showing up at all. Instructors (and other students) are also observing and will report students who do not stay in class the entire time.

  • Class Critiques are important. Please fill them out after every class. Our data entry team typically has these entered into the system and ready for instructor viewing within minutes. This allows instructors to make immediate changes or adjustments, and resolve problems in time for the next session. Instructors (and Symposium staff) see everything that is written so please be professional.

  • End of Week Critiques are Mandatory. To get your certificate at the end of the week, you must hand us a critique (found on the last page of your student handbook) AND your plastic name badge holder BEFORE we hand you your certificate - no exceptions. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The ESOH Symposium is sponsored by the U.S. Air Force's ACC, AETC, AMC, AFSPC, AFGSC, AFRC, ANG and AFCEE. Special Thanks to the many individuals dedicated to providing this world-class training opportunity to the base personnel of these host commands... And to the exhibitors for sharing their information and technologies, making our role a successful one in the best and most efficient program in the Federal government.
